First, you must have an AdSense account. If you don't have one, apply to join the program. After your site is approved, sign into Dashboard, select the relevant blog, and click the TEMPLATE tab. Click the AdSense tab and select the format you want, select color (it is best to select BLEND TEMPLATE). You can preview how the page will look like at the bottom of the page. If to your satisfaction, click the SAVE tab. Republished, and you are done. Check your blog and see if the Google ads are where you want them. If not, check back this site as I will be posting on how to put your ads elsewhere in your site later.
